Inspired by stories told within the scrapbooking community I am immersed in, I began an All About Me album at the beginning of the year never imagining I would have, thus far, over 35 pages, either 1- or 2-page stories told, already printed by Persnickety Prints and inserted into my 6 x 8 Simple Stories teal album. I'm only using a Simple Stories album because no other company sells teal 6 x 8 albums and all my albums, whether 12 x 12, 4 x 6, 6 x 12, 8 x 8, 6 x 6, or any other size, are teal - or turquoise.
Imagine my surprise!
I have, easily, found stories to tell - about me! If one would go through all the albums on my shelves I would imagine there are very few stories all about me, while there are many individual stories about every other member of my family. I am at a place in my relationship with myself that I'm not checking myself at the door, any longer.
From my ever-growing list of stories I'd like to tell, the story of my old-fashioned school room box that is displayed in my living room - a gift handmade by my mom - was near the top of the list as it is always in my purview.
I have enjoyed this particular treasure, immensely, for many years now. It is simply adorable. And, creative! It makes me happy just looking at the loving attention to details. When my sons were in the 7th grade we pulled them out of public school and began homeschooling them, which we continued through their high school graduation. It was the absolutely best decision we could have made - as a family - for all of us. My mom, who creates these 1-inch, 1/2-inch (and currently creates 1/4-inch) scale miniature room boxes and has for many years I can barely remember a time when she hasn't; one year gave me a birthday gift (although it might have been a Christmas gift - but, I think it was birthday) early in our homeschool endeavors, of this amazing, adorable, clever, 1-inch scale old fashioned schoolhouse - in honor of our own home schoolhouse - handmade with love!
Working in the 6 x 8 format means I can keep the design simple. For these pages I used two journal cards, the happiness journal card which I enlarged to cover the entire right page, and a plaid journal card which I used as a border to that beautiful blue digital paper. A few design elements - Ali Edwards' digital chipboard and brushes, plus the journal + photos and I called it good and pleasing to the eye.
