Looking Back...

to when I was little. When I found this on Pinterest I was reminded of when I was a young girl and played with Barbie dolls. But I had it made! My mom made the most amazing Barbie doll clothes. Mom would make clothes for us girls and clothes to sell to the neighborhood families to make extra money. She'd set up an assembly line and sew away. Gorgeous wedding dresses, fur coats, work clothes, everyday clothes. Her imagination was endless. So neat to see some imagination put into today's Barbie clothes versus just matching the times. While I jokingly think Pinterest is evil (just because it's addicting) I love how something like this picture triggers a memory to record. Aren't those clothes divine?

When Elizabeth, Ashley, John and Jarrod were young (I think John and Jarrod were 4), so about 9 years ago I cut out the letters L O V E from foam board and the kids posed in various postions with the different letters. I actually had all of them hold all the letters so I could pick and choose which ones to use for a Valentines Day gift to Hoosier Man that I was making. I'm getting somewhere with this story...

This Easter Elizabeth, Matt, and Ella were over for dinner and my house is a mess because of the move into our office/scraproom is in-progress. The same letters I used so long ago were in a pile to be trashed. Ella picked them up to identify the letters and proceeded to play with them. In fact, she played with them for quite a while on the stairs up to the boys' room. We could hear her talking to herself, saying her alphabet, which led into counting.

The letters triggered the memory from years passed so I had Ella sit and pose spontaneously (with some help) with a different letter to spell out    L O V E. They turned out great for no natural light, filthy house, wrinkled couch cover...but Ella sure is sweet.

January 1, 2004. This was a memorable day for several reasons. It was sooo much fun. We visited a friends farm and the kids got to ride horses, Jeff got to love on them and care for them. The boys not only rode horses, but went hay jumpin' and ridin'. Memorable also though because John was gorged or gouged by one of those sharp hay-bailer-picker-upper-thingies. Nasty little gouge too; long and pretty deep. No hospital visit necessary though. Cleaned it up and moved on although it hurt all day. Didn't stop him from ridin' horses though. The other memorable part to the day was Elizabeth fallin' off a horse when it was trottin'.

The Georgia Boys at this age were so sweet and loving. I realized that since we've begun homeschooling I feel much closer to them and I like it very much.
