my boys (all three of them) head to boy scout camp this coming week. it will be a great time for them. they are returning to a favored camp that they missed out on last year. i suppose i'll put another digital book together of the troops activities and experience at camp. both boys will be 1) taking 6 merit badge classes, and 2) participating in the BSA 1-mile Swim with their dad.
the merit badge classes are mostly obscure classes but, since they have been doing alot of prep work and filling up requirements they should come home with completed classes and six merit badges each.
one of the merit badges is indian lore. and one of the requirements is to hand make an item worn by indians. john chose moccasins. we hunted down a pattern on the internet; i (we)found the materials in my stash of stuff and hoosier man worked john through the pattern's instructions, showed john any necessary stiches he didn't know (hoosier man is the sewer in our house, not me), and then john had at it.
he made a pair of moccasins.
this is just another amazing experience the boys have encountered because of boy scouts. it has afforded them wonderful opportunities, knowledge, excitement, experience, fun and the list goes on.
