I won't ever say I am disappointed in one of J.D. Robb's In Death series, but Leverage in Death was missing something, something. The first chapters were provocative and engaging and I immediately gauged it was going to be an interesting - and intriguing story line. Unfortunately, everything came unhinged or disjointed...and there were so many characters - and so many dead. While so many dead wasn't really the concern, it was, however, a problem when Eve Dallas, who always connects with the dead who she is seeking justice for - didn't. Connect that is. Besides that there is no main character growth, nor was there the normal feisty banter between Eve and Roarke and Eve and Peabody.
I even wondered the unthinkable. I wondered if J.D. Robb didn't have herself a little ghost writer...
Please say it isn't so!
I would never give up on the series because of one misstep, but I do hope with her February release, she has regained her writing finesse. There have only been one or two books in the entire series that I would say were not up to par so I am hopeful.
